The Walk

'The Walk'  remains a must watch even for those who saw the documentary 'Man on Wire'  that won the 2009 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. The movie is a linear account of what the documentary had shown in pictures, videos and interviews.

Man on Wire is a 2008 British-American documentary film directed by James Marsh about the twin tower high wire walk of Philippe Petit in 1974. It is based on Petit's book, 'To Reach the Clouds'. The title of the film is taken from the filed police report Petit, who was arrested after the walk as he had illegally trespassed the WTC premises for his performance.

Having watched the film, even though I was convinced by ending between Annie and Philip's love story, the documentary revealed some more details of why. For cinematic reasons they may have left the part in movie. The movie also left out the part on what problems might have happened in between when Philip's friends arrive at North tower top. These were covered better in the documentary. However "Man on Wire" left out an important character of Papa Rudy who taught Philippe all the tricks and helped him in achieving the impossible. Hence the movie and documentary have both left out some parts, making it mandatory to watch both for enthusiasts.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt gives it all, by learning the juggling and walking on tight rope. He deserves appreciation for his choice of movies that throw challenging characters in his way.
Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt , Ben Kingsley , Charlotte Le Bon, James Badge Dale Directed by: Robert Zemeckis
