Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot finally has a title and it’s quite an obvious one. Seeing as all the information so far has been pretty comic book-friendly (the home-made web shooters, the choice of villain, the love interest), it makes sense for the title to be nabbed from there too. So without further ado, the title is… drum roll … The Amazing Spider-Man.
Along with the title announcement, Sony has also released a new image of Andrew Garfield in the famous full mask and suit. I was looking forward to seeing what they’d do with the mask after seeing the last picture, and I have to say I’m not overly wowed. The whole thing does look a lot darker than the original movie though, which gets a thumbs up from me. The texture and the meshing makes the suit look very plastic and stiff, but otherwise I quite like the detailed look. The thing I do have to point out though is: yellow eyes? Not so sure about that.
The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen and Sally Field. The film, which is being shot entirely in 3D will be released July 3, 2012 in the US and July 4 in the UK. Picture comes via Collider.
Tim Burton’s feature-length adaptation of his 1984 short film, Frankenweenie, now has an official synopsis. And here it is: 'A heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.'
Burton finally is seeing his 25-year-old wish come true – when he first conceived the idea for Frankenweenie, he saw it as a full-length, stop-motion animation, but due to budget constraints he instead made it as a short. This new adaptation will be filmed in black-and-white and rendered in 3D. The press release boasts that over 200 puppets and sets were created for the original film, so you can only imagine the scale of the new one.
The voice cast includes many names who have paired with Burton in the past, including Winona Ryder (Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands), Catherine O’Hara (Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas), Martin Short (Mars Attacks!) and Martin Landau (Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow), as well as a couple of new names, Charlie Tahan and Atticus Shaffer. The US now has a set release date: October 5, 2012, while the UK still has a murkier October 2012 marker.
Moving on to our final piece of fantasy news, we have a picture for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. The film's Facebook page released an image of Bella and Edward’s honeymoon spot, Isle Esme, especially for Valentine’s Day.
The final double-bill of Twilight movies sees Bella and Edward finally getting married and travelling to Rio de Janeiro for their honeymoon. But when Bella discovers she’s pregnant, their lives are thrown into a whirlwind of betrayal and misfortune. During a near-fatal childbirth Edward is forced to grant Bella’s wish and turn her into a vampire, but the appearance of their daughter, Renesmee, attracts the attention of the Volturi, causing an inevitable conflict.
Bill Condon will direct both parts of Breaking Dawn. The cast includes the return of all the regulars: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Billy Burke, Peter Facinelli, Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed and Kellan Lutz. Part 1 will be in US and UK cinemas November 18, 2011 and Part 2 will follow a year later, on November 16, 2012 in the US. No UK date has been set for that yet.
